Case Study: SAGDA
SAGDA originated from the South African Internship Foundation (SASIF) which provided options and alternatives for unemployed graduates. The central tenet of this foundation was a bottom-up approach in which the organisation was founded by unemployed graduate students in order to provide assistance to other unemployed graduates. The outcome was developed by the idea that progress can be made for these graduates through communicating with peers that have endured a similar experience. Now some of those previous interns are currently board members.
The South African Graduates Development Association recently purchased over R2 500.00 of Microsoft software (Windows XP and Office Professional Plus). SAGDA applied under the SANGOTeCH programme which enabled them to save nearly R45 000.00 for their organisation. The low cost of upgrading their software has allowed the organisation to focus their energy on making their computer center accessible for graduates in a more efficient way.
“purchasing Microsoft software and hardware for this discounted price has benefited unemployed graduates by providing job-readiness training with Microsoft software that would otherwise have been too expensive.”
