Case Study: Aids Consortium
About the Organisation:
The AIDS Consortium is a human rights organisation committed to openness and non discrimination on the basis of HIV/AIDS. To this end, the Consortium brings together organisations and individuals in a network that processes information and work towards an equitable response to the pandemic along with addressing human rights issues arising in relation to HIV/AIDS.
The Aids Consortium (AC) is the umbrella body for local and international CBO's and NGO's. They take a multi-faceted approach to attacking the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa and are affiliated with over 1000 organisations. After purchasing Microsoft software, the Aids Consortium has been able to interact with other AIDS service organisations (ASO’s) by using Cyber Café facility. They had been unable to afford Microsoft software for their computers. Their capacity building programme has roughly twenty computers which are used for internet literacy. A staffer from the Aids Consortium stated that, “SANGOTeCH is the so important to Non-government organisations. Thanks to the programme, we managed to save money to buy other computers for our new member as the organisations continues to grow.” Aids Consortium is also extremely grateful towards Microsoft as their Cyber Officer, Bongani Sithole noted, “If it was not for Microsoft helping NGO’s like us, we would be dysfunctional."
